Lecture Topic: Riding the Waves—an ACT Approach to Cultivating Emotional Regulation & Cultural Flexibility
Speaker: Pin-Chieh Lai, Licensed Counseling Psychologist / Physical and Mental Health Center, National Chengchi University
Introduction: It may feel that our emotions and thoughts come at us uninvited when we seem the least prepared at times. In the midst of navigating our sense of belonging in a new environment, how can we allow the “space between stimulus and response” to emerge – as Viktor Frankl puts it – so that choices can be made in alignment with our values? In this lecture, we will dive into phases of cultural adaptation and explore ways to leverage our strengths in the face of uncertainty from an ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) perspective. |
