Fake News in Asia : Lessons Learned, Problems Persisting, and Emerging Threats
💡 Why Attend?
This session seeks to examine the lessons learned from how Asian countries navigated the spread of fake news
during COVID-19. It explores how different media systems, government regulations, and cultural factors
shaped the spread of online falsehoods and how these contexts interacted with both local and global
networks of fake news. Drawing from a new edited volume titled “Fake News Across Asian Countries,”
this sharing will review the ways in which falsehoods around COVID-19 were framed, spread,
and countered across distinct political and media environments; assess lingering issues; and discuss
emerging threats.
